Windjammer's Mandalay 'Barefoot' Cruise, Jan.,2002
Hello, welcome to Rand and Carol's photo diary of our Jan. 2002 Mandaly trip with the WIndJammer company. To get started, use the links at the left.
This trip was a very special one for us, as it was our first Windjammer 'barefoot cruise'. We decided to do a 14 day trip to allow lots of relaxation time and opportunities to get to know fellow passengers.
Windjammer is a fantastic company to travel with, if you like leaving all (yes, all) your fancy clothes at home. Leave the hair curlers, and cell phones too. Plan on spending quality time with fellow passengers, and alone, with your reading and writing or art and photography. Plan on being able to take part in raising sails (to the sounds of Amazing Grace over the ships fine loudspeaker system!). And yes, definitely plan on going barefoot much of the time.
We traveled aboard the Mandalay, and this wonderfully small vessel with a very adroit Captain (Matt), got us into the same ports the private yachters frequent...in other words, off the beaten path. We felt like we had taken an adventure, not a "trip". We will repeat this vacation again someday very soon.
Food is good (and plenty), accomodations are a little tight but sufficient, and swizzlehour extends well into dinner hour, drinks free. Wine with dinner, also.
The Windjammer company offers "junior jammer" trips for families with children, otherwise the standard trips tend to be "mostly adults", with parties and "theme" nights slanted towards that assumption.
